Day 4: pick up car and drive to Beauvais

Image
We arrived in Paris around 1.30 in the afternoon. It was reasonably smooth sailing getting our luggage and picking up the car. Took a while to figure out how things worked on the Peugeot and after a wee while we were on our way to Beauvais. The trip took about an hour and gave BR a chance to get a feel for the new car and driving on the other side of the road. I was the key navigator and driving instructor. Stayed in a little BB run by the archetypal old French man (that looked a little eccentric). He had virtually no English and we had the bare basics…I’m talking 2-3 words in French. Somehow, we made it happen. The room was upstairs in a little old house built in the early 1900s. It was very cute from the front and had tiny narrow stairs….no way we could get luggage up, twisted around like the old steps leading up castle towers. The room itself was very quaint its original wooden beams and odd roof angles…in fact we had a large bedroom, a sitting room and then bathroom. We had a ...

Day 1-3: Dubai

P ost 1: Stopover in Dubai (Days 1-3) Our Persian dinner   Day One:     Back in Dubai after a 14 hour or so flight. The pilot   advised it was 39 degrees so we knew it would be a   stinker when we left the airport. Everything was very   quick and streamlined getting through immigration etc.  We are staying in Deira Creek area. Nearer to the old   souks (markets etc) and along the busy creek (river).   This is in the old area, so we have beautiful history,   buildings etc around us.    We were pretty tired from the   flight, which actually went quite comfortably and   quickly…  thanks Emirates, so sleep, a stroll and some   authentic Persian food rounded out the day.   Day Two     Our first full day was jam packed…crazily so given it was 39.4…..felt like the end of days to me. It began with excitement when at 5 am (still adjusting to sleep tim...

The countdown begins……

Started the actual organisation two weeks ago….though in our minds we have been thinking about this for a year or so. BR retires in 2 weeks so that will give us a couple of weeks to pull it together. Flights booked, car purchased, insurance done…that was an ordeal, and drivers licenses obtained. Have a rough plan…12 weeks which includes France, south of Spain, Morocco and Portugal. As we are somewhat older now we will include a few days there and back in Dubai. Have booked a private tour down to Abu Dhabi for Rick's birthday. Looking forward to getting back into warmth.
